BiographyDean Creedy DipFiny,YTAA "I am not a westerner trying to be Indian, but a Soul experiencing true connection to Spirit" I first became aware of a reality outside of daily life in the early 70's whilst reading about a central American shaman in the writings of Carlos Castenada. His graphic descriptions of a world completely removed from our normal understanding inspired me to search for answers. The main element within Castenada's writings was the use of narcotic substances to reach altered states of awareness, and having dabled lightly with the 70's drug scene (and realized it wasn't for me) I set out to find a more lasting and real way! Martial arts, and the way that meditation was utilized to attain tranquil states of clarity during and after practice, gave me an avenue to explore for many years including Wing Chun, Shorinji Kempo, Kendo and Karate. Travel and marriage gave me a taste of the world, and during this time I discovered Yoga practice and the profound states of peace that can be attained. The first and perhaps the most exciting experience for me was not the asana (postures) or even the pranayam (breathing practices), it was listening to discourses of some of the Hindu and Buddhist writings and hearing that during states of hightened awareness these people where reaching what had been discribed many thousands of kilometeres away in another country. In the early 90's I studied Usui Reiki in the UK with a direct disciple of Grandmaster Phyllis Lei Furomoto and attained Masters soon after. Then becoming ordained as a Universal Interfaith Minister and gaining a Doctorate in Metaphysics from ULC California. I also decided that to explore the depths of Yoga I should gain formal training as a Teacher and so started a long and happy association with FinY (Friends in Yoga) in Perth, Western Australia. After gaining a teaching diploma I decided to give back some of what I had recieved and became a teacher on the FinY course. And more recently gained admission into the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia. What followed was a frenzy of many different styles of yoga from Iyengar, Hatha, Shadow, Tibetan and eventually discovering Vinyasa (flowing) yoga. At this time it was unheard of that you could construct a yoga practice as you went along, especially without the use of a plan or script, but for me it offered the flexiblity (sorry for the pun) of flowing from hard practice to soft and all the levels in between. For many years my wife and I ran a succesfull Yoga and Meditation school in Perth and taught year 10 & 12 school students, corporate classes for Bunnings and Alinta Gas and had great fulfilment running retreats in Southwest WA and overseas. But back to reality, I spent time in India at an ashram in Bangalore studying texts, scriptures and methods to reach altered states and met with many teachers and seekers all intent on reaching the same goal and it was at this time I gained insight as to how all the paths of spirtuality flowed together. During the yoga years I came across the path of Indian and Tibetan Tantra and then learnt how Tantra and Yoga have evolved sometimes crossing paths and at times avoiding each other. I was instantly captured by the way tantra will accept anything that works to achieve its goal, and that of enlightenment and release from the cycle of reincarnation. I have studied and worked with many well known teachers of Spirituality (Newage and Old), Buddhism, Tantra, Mysticism and yoga and have recieved in the process a deep understanding of what underlies our exsitence and gives Blissful meaning to our lives. The form of Yoga I now offer is both ancient and modern without the many diversions that can occur upon the path allowing you to reach your spiritual goal in this lifetime.....just dive in!
